There’s a quiet confidence beginning to emerge in the music of Letterkenny singer-songwriter Mel Zaich, an artist whose acoustic-led sound is matched by thoughtful songwriting, strong musicianship and an honesty that comes naturally through her work.
A vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, Mel has spent years developing her craft, both through performance and study. Her talent has already been recognised with the Mary Lewy Memorial Award, while her experience with DANU Young Women’s Choir, one of Ireland’s leading youth vocal ensembles, has given her the opportunity to develop as both a performer and vocalist.
Her musicianship is equally impressive. Mel has achieved Grade 8 Acoustic Guitar with Distinction, accredited through the London College of Music — an achievement that reflects the dedication and commitment she has put into developing her skills.
Having performed at school concerts, community events and youth music showcases throughout Donegal, Mel is steadily finding her feet on stage while developing a sound and identity of her own.
In 2026, she took an important step forward with the release of her debut single, “Bananas Inside My Brain” — an original song exploring the confusion, complexity and personal growth that come with adolescence. It marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Mel’s songwriting journey and offered listeners their first real introduction to her creative voice.
Now, as a new member of the Over the West Creative Collective, Mel joins a growing family of emerging artists from across the region.
With her songwriting developing, her musicianship already firmly established and plenty more original music ahead, Mel Zaich is an artist at the beginning of what promises to be a very interesting musical journey — and one worth keeping an ear on.
